LLM (Large Language Model)

AI

An AI model trained on vast text data to understand and generate human language. Examples: GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, LLaMA.

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)

AI

A technique where an AI model retrieves external information (web pages, databases) before generating an answer, improving accuracy and freshness.

AI Overview

GEO

Google's AI-generated summary displayed at the top of search results, synthesizing information from multiple sources.

Citation

GEO

When an AI engine references or links to a specific source (your website) in its generated answer. The core goal of GEO.

Structured Data

Technical

Machine-readable code added to web pages (JSON-LD, Microdata) that explicitly describes entities, attributes, and relationships for search engines and AI.

Knowledge Graph

Technical

A database of entities and their relationships used by search engines and AI to understand the real world. Being present in knowledge graphs increases AI citation likelihood.

Prompt

AI

The text input a user gives to an AI system. In GEO, understanding which prompts trigger brand mentions is essential for optimization.

Mention Rate

GEO

The percentage of relevant AI prompts where your brand is mentioned in the generated response. A key GEO performance metric.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
